Jessie Mitchell.

Jessie Mitchell’s work is an exploration around the themes of sculpture, drawing, gesture and fashion. Within her practice the artist is the creator, the object is the agent and the wearer/body is the protagonist. These elements exist in situations that address issues of power, control, representation and culture.

Jessie's work will engage with interfaces already in play and which are scripted into the culture of William Street. By tweaking and reframing everyday relationships between the body and the built environment, my work aims to refute the source of revitalisation* in Northbridge. The body is at the centre of this project, manipulated according to the relationships established both in its surroundings and interactions with other bodies. From these scenarios ambiguous imagery, is derived, full of innocuous and bizarre gestures that gently undercut expectation.
